8/14/2001 - Feel The Sting
Got a pleasant afternoon start today, 'cause we're gonna be going all night. One would think otherwise glancing over the material we are slated to shoot, but knowing Hawk and Short-Fuze, we'll all be up until the wee hours. It can be a drag while it's going on, but in the end, the quality of the footage is always worth the time put into it. Much to our collective chagrin.
We got a few pickup shots before the sun went down in the woods. Pleasant and low-key. Then we took off for our night location which TJ and Desert Fox were prepping. A location we've shot at one of our other nights actually, so everyone is thinking it'll be a quick and easy cakewalk. The denial and delusions are another side effect of Hanta Virus, I've heard.
So we get to the location and someone (I'm assuming Bronze, let's blame him) parked the Intruder right next to a hornet nest. Not only right next to, but the nest was in a large hole in the ground right outside the RV door. Here's the clever part though - upon arrival, Asbrey's big plastic costume bin was placed, unknowingly, right on top of the hole. That combined with the fact that it was night really saved our asses. Most of them anyway. Later in the evening, I was helping Barfly put his costume on when someone in the RV noticed some hornets in there, buzzing around the lights. BANG! Bronze gets stung. Battle ensues. More hornets seem to be appearing. Safety Blake is getting spooked. BANG! Someone else is hit. Safety Blake is right, there are hornets everywhere. By chance, I look at the ground to see the gaping black hole crawling with hornets that we had inadvertantly uncovered. I cover it back up, and everybody runs.
Bronze got nailed a couple of times, and one of his hands swole up real proper-like. Spitfire got hit even worse - three times in succession THROUGH her jeans, right next to her crotch. Bummer. I almost got nailed in the foot but the hornet was zinging my shoe rather than me. The last mistake he ever made.
The Intruder was secured, no other injuries were reported, and the beat went on. Wrapped at dawn, and we've got tomorrow off.
Photo Addendum - Short-Fuze has a Hanta Seizure before we go to our night location.
