7/17/2001 - Divide and Conquer
Another day in the woods and by a river. I guess rivers just give us something slightly more visual and interesting to look at and interact with. Seems like we run into 'em a lot though... They do look nice. And the crawdad hunting is rather enjoyable when there's nothing else to do.
Speaking of which, today was the first day that any of the crew started playing the insidious C-47 game. Rumor has it Desert Fox is the culprit, but the jury's still out on that one. For those not quite in the know C-47s are clothes pins. Yeah, yeah, I know... But C-47 sounds a lot cooler than "clothes pin" don't it? Hell yes it does. The game is quite simple: sneak up behind someone and clip a C-47 on to their back somewhere without them noticing. Kind of like the old "Kick me!" gag. Everyone gets a good chuckle at everyone else's expense, while they themselves may also be unknowing victims of the game. Essentially, you end up with a skittish, paranoid crew always spinning around and contorting themselves in attempts to sweep their back clean of potential C-47 infestation.
Good honest fun.
There was a poison oak scare today as well. I didn't think the stuff was poison oak, but several members of the crew swore up and down that it was. The stuff was everywhere, and if it had been the accursed plant, it would have gotten all over us and every single piece of our equipment. We would have been hosed. Luckily, it ended up being a false alarm. I tried to tell them...
Barely finished on time today, but still on schedule. Another down day tomorrow! Woohoo!!!
